The Beppu Hells (Beppu Jigoku) are a unique and fascinating natural complex of hot springs located in the city of Beppu, on the island of Kyushu in Japan. This attraction is one of the most famous and unusual in the region and consists of nine different geothermal sources. They got their name "hells" (Japanese: "jigoku") because of their impressive and sometimes terrifying appearance – bubbling water, rising clouds of steam, and bright, unnatural colors caused by the high mineral content.

Unlike traditional Japanese onsens (hot springs for bathing), the Beppu Hells sources are not intended for bathing. Their main feature and attraction lie in the incredible visual spectacle and the opportunity to observe powerful natural geothermal processes. Visitors come here to admire the unique landscapes created by nature itself.
Each of the nine "hells" has its own individual characteristics and unique look. Among them, you can find springs with milky-turquoise water, boiling mud, as well as ponds with water of a deep blood-red or bright blue hue. A walk through the territory of the Beppu Hells turns into an exciting journey through the world of geothermal wonders, leaving unforgettable impressions from contemplating these amazing creations of nature.
