This place is known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendliness. It has everything for a comfortable stay: a cozy green garden with a small pond, areas with soft sofas, free Wi-Fi, and even musical instruments for impromptu evenings. The primary significance of the Chabad House is that it offers tourists a "home away from home," providing access to kosher food and spiritual support in one of the world's most exotic regions.

What to Do

At the Chabad House, everyone will find something to their liking, whether it is seeking spiritual solitude or wanting to spend an evening in good company. One of the main highlights is the kosher restaurant, serving home-cooked meals. It is a great place to try traditional recipes adapted for travelers and enjoy a taste that reminds you of home.

For those looking for social interaction, the center offers cozy lounge areas with sofas. You can play musical instruments, chat with other tourists, or simply relax in the shaded garden by the pond, contemplating the starry sky. Free Wi-Fi is also available for guests, allowing you to easily plan your further route through the region.

Special attention should be paid to religious and cultural events. Weekly Shabbat celebrations are held here, gathering dozens of people. This is a time for songs, traditional meals, and warm communication. The center also hosts Torah classes and prayer services, and the Rabbi is always ready to help organize personal events, such as a Bar Mitzvah, or provide support in times of need.

Getting There

Finding the Chabad House is quite simple, as it is located in the popular tourist area of Ban Visoun, on Oupparath Xiengkong Road. This is a central part of the city, within walking distance of the famous night market and major guesthouses. If you are staying in the historic center, the walk to the site will only take a few minutes.

For those arriving from Luang Prabang Airport (LPQ), the most convenient way to get there is by taxi or a traditional tuk-tuk. The trip will take about 10–15 minutes, as the airport is just a few kilometers from the city. Drivers usually know this area well, so it is sufficient to provide the street name or nearby landmarks.

Travelers exploring remote corners of Laos will find it convenient to use Google Maps or GPS coordinates. Since the city is quite compact, many people prefer to rent a bicycle, making it easy to combine a visit to the Chabad House with a tour of neighboring temples and UNESCO-protected attractions.

History & Facts

The history of this place began in early 2017, when Rabbi Sholom Glitzenstein and his wife Tamar decided to establish a permanent presence for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in this exotic country. Thanks to their efforts, Laos became the 92nd country in the world to host an official Chabad mission.

The choice of the city was no coincidence: Luang Prabang attracts thousands of young Israeli travelers every year. For example, in 2014, more than 4,700 tourists from Israel visited the city. The Glitzensteins left their usual comforts to create a "home away from home" for those seeking spiritual support and kosher food in Southeast Asia.

The establishment of the center was carried out in close cooperation with Chabad branches in Thailand, from where necessary food items and religious supplies were initially delivered. Just five months after opening, the Chabad House was already operating at full strength, hosting up to 50 guests for every Saturday meal (Shabbat) and organizing prayer services for local expats and tourists.

Time Needed

The amount of time you should set aside for a visit depends on your goals. If you plan to visit the kosher restaurant for a quiet lunch or dinner, 1–2 hours will be sufficient. This time is also enough to relax in the garden by the pond or use the lounge area with Wi-Fi.

To participate in festive events, Torah classes, or the weekly Saturday meal (Shabbat), it is recommended to set aside an entire evening — approximately 2–4 hours. These gatherings are usually accompanied by conversation, songs, and collective prayers, creating a special atmosphere that you’ll want to fully immerse yourself in without rushing.

Working Hours

The Chabad House is open to visitors daily. The standard working hours for the center and the kosher restaurant are from 10:00 to 20:00, Monday through Sunday. During this time, you can come to eat, relax, or use the center's services.

However, it is worth noting that on Fridays and during Jewish holidays, the schedule may change due to preparations for festive events and the start of Shabbat. Visitors are encouraged to check for updated information on the official website or contact the center in advance, especially if you plan a visit in the evening or on weekends.
