How to get to Vardo

Vardø is the oldest town in Northern Norway and a unique fortress located on an island in the dramatic waters of the Barents Sea. There is absolutely no railway connection to Vardø, as the railway network of Norway ends much further south, in the area of Bodø. Travelling by train directly to this Arctic region is not possible.

If you are departing from Kirkenes or Båtsfjord, expect a longer route. You will have to drive about 247 km, spending approximately 3.5 hours on the road, which will require the driver's full attention, especially in winter weather conditions.
