Khasab is the picturesque capital of the Musandam Governorate in Oman, often referred to as the "Norway of Arabia" for its majestic fjords and rocky shores. This unique exclave city is separated from the main part of the country by UAE territory, making a trip here a real adventure for lovers of nature and seclusion. When planning how to get to Khasab, tourists can choose between a scenic drive along the coast, a flight, or a sea route.

Since the city of Khasab itself does not have a major international airport handling long-haul flights, travelers often use transit routes. The most convenient option is flying to the city of Ras Al Khaimah, which is located just 50 km from the destination and serves as an excellent starting point.

There are also flight options via the Iranian cities of Qeshm (78 km) or Bandar Abbas (112 km), however, they are located on the other side of the strait. The airport in Ras Al Khaimah remains the most logically simple choice, as it is well-connected to the region and allows for quick access to the Omani fjords.

There is no direct railway connection to the city of Khasab, as the complex mountainous terrain of the Musandam Peninsula is not conducive to the development of this mode of transport. The railway in Oman is generally not a primary mode of travel for tourists.

The nearest points theoretically accessible by rail in neighboring countries are Ras Al Khaimah or Iranian Bandar Abbas. However, if choosing this route, the final leg of the journey to Khasab will still have to be covered by car or taxi.

Currently, there is no information about regular direct bus routes directly to Khasab. Public transport in this isolated region is not as widely developed as in the capital, so travelers should be prepared for alternative options.

Most often, tourists travel by intercity buses to border zones or major transport hubs in neighboring emirates, and then transfer to a taxi. It is recommended to check in advance the current schedule and availability of trips with local carriers before traveling.

Traveling by car is one of the most beautiful ways to get to Khasab, especially if you are driving from the UAE side. The most popular and fastest route runs from the city of Ras Al Khaimah: the distance is about 79 km, and the travel time will take just 1.4 hours, allowing you to enjoy views of the coastal cliffs.

There are also much longer, theoretical routes for road travelers, for example, from the cities of Qeshm or Bandar Abbas. However, such trips would require covering almost 3000 km in a detour across several borders and would take over 34 hours, making them extremely exhausting compared to the short route across the Emirates border.

A trip to Khasab promises unforgettable impressions from encountering the wild nature of Arabia. To make your journey as comfortable and surprise-free as possible, pay attention to several important recommendations.

1. Clothing and Climate. It is hot here all year round, so choose light clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen). However, remember local traditions: shoulders and knees should be kept covered, especially when visiting the city.
2. Transport. Public transport is poorly developed. The best way to get around is renting a car (preferably an SUV for mountain trips) or using a taxi.
3. Currency. The official currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). Major hotels accept cards, but cash will be needed at markets and small shops.
4. Documents and Visa. Since this is an exclave, crossing the border is required when entering by car from the UAE. Check visa requirements and car insurance validity for Oman in advance.
5. Communication. English is widely spoken in the tourism sector, but knowing a couple of phrases in Arabic will be received with gratitude by the locals.
6. Water and Sun. The sun here is very active. Always wear a hat, use sunscreen, and drink plenty of bottled water.
7. Dhow Cruises. Do not miss the chance to go on a cruise on a traditional "dhow" boat through the fjords — this is the main activity for which people travel to this region.
