Matosinhos Beach (Praia de Matosinhos) is the largest and most accessible beach in the vicinity of Porto, the main city of northern Portugal. It is a long and wide stretch of golden sand washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to its size, there is always plenty of room for everyone, making it a popular getaway for both locals and tourists.

The beach is located in the town of Matosinhos, on the northern bank of the Douro River estuary. Its uniqueness lies in its neighborhood: a large seaport on one side and the historical fort of Castelo do Queijo (meaning "Cheese Castle") on the other. This combination gives the area a special flair, where industrial landscapes harmoniously blend with the natural environment.
Matosinhos is primarily known as an ideal spot for surfing, especially for beginners. The consistent but not overly aggressive waves, combined with a gentle entry into the water and a sandy bottom, create excellent conditions for learning. Many surf schools operate here, offering lessons and equipment rental. Although the ocean water remains cool even in summer, this doesn't stop water sports enthusiasts who come here year-round.
