The majestic Obolensky-Nogotkov Monument is an iconic landmark where many travelers begin their journey into the history of Yoshkar-Ola. The monument is dedicated to the city's first voivode, Prince Ivan Andreyevich, and serves as the central point of the square that also bears his name. It is not just a sculpture, but a true symbol of the continuity of generations in the heart of Russia.

The bronze equestrian statue is impressive in scale: it reaches a height of 6 meters, and the total weight of the composition exceeds 6 tons. The monument is set on a massive granite pedestal and looks particularly imposing against the backdrop of the Venetian-style architectural ensemble. This masterpiece was created by the famous Moscow sculptor Andrey Kovalchuk.
Unveiled in 2007, the monument quickly became a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Situated across from the government building and next to the National Art Gallery, its location emphasizes its status as the primary historical landmark of the capital of the Mari El Republic.
