The history of this site dates back to the second half of the 19th century when it was the estate of the Susoklov merchant family. In 1865, an elegant building was erected on the foundation of a house that had burned down, surrounded by a luxurious garden that eventually became a true miniature arboretum. Rare cedars, fragrant azaleas, and camellias grew here, and the entrance was adorned with majestic gates that have survived to this day.

After 1917, the estate was nationalized and served as an orphanage and a kindergarten at various times. However, a new chapter in the park's history began in 1936, when a full-fledged children's park of culture and leisure was created here at the initiative of city residents. Practically the entire city participated in its construction: workers from local factories built pavilions, railway workers laid tracks for a miniature train, and city services installed lighting.

The park officially received its modern name in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov during the post-war period. In the 1960s, the first monument to the hero was installed here, and later, in 2003, it was replaced by a new sculpture by L. Turskaya. Today, the historical Susoklov estate building, restored in the late 1980s, houses the Center for the Creative Development of Children and Youth.
