The majestic Basilica of Our Mother of Mercy is not only the main spiritual symbol gracing Maribor, but also one of the seven most important basilicas that Slovenia is proud of. Built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in a strict yet elegant Pseudo-Romanesque style, it impresses with its scale, being the second-largest church in the country.

The church's exterior is easily recognizable by two powerful 58-meter towers topped with gilded crosses, visible from many points in the city. The building's facade is made of red brick with stone decorative elements, and above the main entrance sits a magnificent Annunciation mosaic, inviting travelers to step inside.
The interior of the basilica hides a true treasure—the high altar, crafted from 17 types of marble. It is here that the famous miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary is kept, drawing thousands of pilgrims every year. The atmosphere is enhanced by modern frescoes by Stane Kregar and the sounds of a powerful 1900 organ, creating a unique space for reflection and the contemplation of art.
