Da Lat, located at an altitude of about 1,500 metres above sea level, enjoys a temperate climate unique to Vietnam, often referred to as the "City of Eternal Spring." Unlike the hot and humid lowland areas of the country, pleasant coolness prevails here all year round. Average annual temperatures fluctuate within a comfortable range, rarely dropping to uncomfortable lows or rising to scorching heat, making Da Lat an attractive destination at any time of the year.

Two main seasons are clearly distinguished in Da Lat's climate: the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season usually lasts from December to March. During this time, rainfall is minimal, and sunny days are most frequent, which is ideal for excursions and outdoor activities. From April, rainfall begins to gradually increase, and the rainy season sets in from May to October. The highest amount of rainfall and rainy days occurs from June to September. November is a transitional month when the rains gradually subside.

Despite the presence of a rainy season, air temperature in Da Lat remains quite stable and pleasant throughout the year. Rains typically occur as downpours, which can be intense but are often short-lived, giving way to sunny weather. This means that even in the rainy season, you can plan trips by taking into account possible weather changes. Overall, Da Lat's climate creates a refreshing and comfortable atmosphere for visitors.

The temperature regime in Da Lat is characterized by mildness and stability throughout the year, fully justifying its reputation as the "City of Eternal Spring." The average annual temperature fluctuates within a very narrow range, from approximately 19.7°C in December to 23.0°C in May. The warmest months are usually April and May, when the average daytime temperature reaches 22.9-23.0°C, and maximum values can rise to 27.6°C. December and January are considered the coolest, with an average temperature of about 19.7-19.8°C, while minimum night temperatures can drop to 15.3°C.

The summer period in Da Lat, if focusing on the warmest months (April-May), is characterized by pleasantly warm weather. Daytime highs rarely exceed 27-28°C, which, combined with the mountain air, creates comfortable conditions far from the exhausting heat of Vietnam's coastal regions. Nights at this time are also warm, with temperatures around 18-19°C. Winter months, especially December and January, bring noticeable coolness, particularly at night and in the morning, when the thermometer can show 15-16°C. During the day, however, the temperature usually rises to a comfortable 23-24°C. Notably, significant daily temperature fluctuations are observed in Da Lat: the difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows can reach 9-11°C, especially in the dry months from January to March, while in the rainy season, this difference is somewhat smoothed out.

Precipitation in Da Lat has a distinct seasonal character, divided into a dry period and a rainy season. Given the mild climate of the "City of Eternal Spring," snow does not fall here, and all precipitation comes in the form of rain.

The dry season in Da Lat usually lasts from December to March. During this time, rains are rare and insignificant. January and February are the driest months, with only 1 mm of rainfall. February is also distinguished by the fewest number of rainy days – on average about 5. In March, precipitation increases slightly to 2 mm with 8 rainy days. December, ending the dry period, brings about 2 mm of rainfall and approximately 12 rainy days.

The rainy season in Da Lat begins in April, when rainfall increases to 4 mm, and the number of rainy days reaches 15. The main wet period lasts from May to October. The highest volume of rainfall occurs in September and October – 10 mm in each. In terms of rain frequency, the summer and early autumn months stand out: July (31 rainy days, 9 mm rainfall), August (30 rainy days, 9 mm), as well as June and September (29 rainy days each, with 8 mm and 10 mm of rainfall respectively). May is also very wet (8 mm, 27 rainy days). In November, rain intensity noticeably decreases (7 mm, 19 rainy days), marking the transition to the dry season. Characteristically, even in the rainy season, precipitation often occurs as downpours that can be intense but not always prolonged, frequently alternating with clear spells.

When packing your suitcase for a trip to Da Lat, remember its nickname "City of Eternal Spring" and the weather characteristics specific to the mountainous terrain. The key principle is layering. During the day, the temperature can be very comfortable, reaching 26-28°C in the warm months (March-May), but evenings and early mornings, especially from December to February, can be quite cool, with temperatures around 15-17°C. Therefore, light t-shirts, shirts, as well as a sweater, fleece jacket, or light coat will become your faithful companions. Don't forget comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking around the city and its picturesque surroundings, as well as sunscreen – the mountain sun is active even in cloudy weather.

Depending on the season, your luggage will require some additions. If your trip falls during the dry season (approximately from December to March), when rainfall is minimal (1-2 mm per month) and sunny days prevail, focus mainly on light but layered clothing and sun protection. For the rainy season (from May to October, with transitional April and November), when rainfall increases significantly (up to 8-10 mm per month) and the number of rainy days can reach 27-31 per month (especially June-September), be sure to pack an umbrella and a light waterproof jacket or raincoat. Clothing made from quick-drying fabrics will also be very practical. Insect repellent may come in handy, especially if you plan nature outings during this humid period.
