General Weather Character

The climate in the city of Lengshuijiang can be described as humid subtropical with distinct seasons. Throughout the year, the weather shifts from cool, occasionally damp winters to hot and humid summers. Travellers should note that high humidity is characteristic of this region almost year-round, which may influence how temperatures are perceived.

Summer here is prolonged and warm: in July and August, average daytime temperatures often exceed +30°C. Winter, by contrast, is quite mild compared to the country's northern regions; frost is rare, and the average temperature in January hovers around +5°C. However, due to the lack of central heating in many buildings and the high humidity, it can feel quite chilly indoors during winter.

A distinct feature of Lengshuijiang's weather conditions is the high number of cloudy days and frequent rainfall, particularly in the first half of the year. From April to June, the rainy season occurs, with precipitation days reaching 20–22 per month. The most comfortable and stable time to visit is considered to be autumn, especially September and October, when the heat subsides and rain falls much less frequently, allowing for pleasant walks.

Temperature

The climate regime in the city of Lengshuijiang is characterised by distinct seasonality, yet without extreme freezing temperatures. The coldest month of the year is traditionally January, when the average temperature drops to 5.2°C, while the hottest is July with a figure of around 27.9°C. The transition between seasons is clearly felt, providing a variety of weather conditions for travellers throughout the year.

Summer here is hot and quite humid. In July and August, daytime highs consistently exceed the 31°C mark, creating genuine heat. Even nights during this period remain very warm, with temperatures around 24°C, preventing the air from cooling down significantly. June, marking the beginning of summer, is also distinguished by high temperatures (up to 28°C during the day) but is accompanied by a large number of rainy days, which increases humidity.

Winter months, on the other hand, are mild and cool. In December and January, the thermometer drops at night to an average of 2–3°C, while during the day the air warms up to 8–10°C. Daily temperature fluctuations remain moderate throughout the year: the difference between day and night readings rarely exceeds 7–8 degrees, making the climate relatively comfortable and predictable.

Precipitation

When planning a trip to Lengshuijiang, it is worth noting that precipitation distribution here has a clearly defined seasonal character. The rainiest period falls in late spring and early summer. The peak of humidity is observed in June, when rain can occur up to 22 days a month, bringing the maximum amount of annual precipitation.

Spring months, especially April and May, are also distinguished by frequent rains — precipitation falls approximately 20 days a month. At this time of year, it is recommended to always carry an umbrella or raincoat, as the weather can be changeable. However, the warm air makes these rains quite tolerable for walking.

The driest period arrives in late autumn and winter. For instance, in December, the number of days with precipitation decreases to a minimum (about 9 days), and the volume becomes insignificant. During winter months, when temperatures may drop to 2–3°C, light drizzle or wet snow is possible, but heavy snowfalls are not characteristic of this region.

What to Pack

When preparing for a journey to Lengshuijiang, consider the high humidity and frequent precipitation in this region almost all year round. Summer here is hot, with an average temperature of about +28°C, but very rainy — in June, the number of wet days can reach 22. Therefore, for the warm season, be sure to take light clothing made of natural breathable fabrics, a reliable umbrella, and a high-quality raincoat. Sunscreen will also be useful, as the sun is quite active on clear days.

Winter in the city is mild but cool, with average temperatures ranging from +5°C to +7°C. Due to the dampness, the air may feel colder than it actually is, so it is recommended to bring a windproof jacket, warm sweaters, and a scarf for protection against the wind. In the transition seasons, spring and autumn, the weather is changeable, so it is best to use the layering principle: wear a t-shirt, jumper, and light jacket so you can remove or add layers of clothing depending on the temperature.

Regardless of the season, pay special attention to footwear: it should be comfortable, well-broken-in, and preferably waterproof to ensure long walks around the city and its surroundings are comfortable. Given that even in the driest months (December and October) it rains for about 9–11 days, a spare pair of shoes and a dryer for them could prove to be very useful accessories for your trip.
