General Weather Overview
The climate in Rhodes, located in Greece, is typically Mediterranean, which means hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The average annual temperature is comfortable for visiting at almost any time of the year, although the character of the weather changes noticeably depending on the season.
The summer months, especially from June to August, are characterised by high temperatures reaching an average of 27°C and virtually no rainfall. In July and August, there is no rain at all, making this time ideal for beach holidays and enjoying the sun. Winter, from December to February, remains mild with average temperatures around 13-15°C; however, this is the wettest period of the year with the highest number of rainy days, though the total amount of precipitation is not large.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are wonderful transitional seasons. Temperatures during these periods are very pleasant, ranging from 17°C to 25°C, and rainfall decreases significantly compared to winter, especially by May and after September. These months offer comfortable weather for excursions and active leisure, avoiding the summer heat and winter dampness.

In July and August, average daytime temperatures confidently stay above 26°C, and maximum readings often approach 28-29°C. Daytime highs are usually 14-16.5°C, and nighttime lows rarely fall below 12°C, meaning there are no frosts. Daily temperature fluctuations throughout the year are not too great; the difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows is usually about 2-3.5°C, ensuring a fairly even temperature background without sharp changes.
Precipitation
In Rhodes, there is a distinct seasonality in precipitation distribution, characteristic of the Mediterranean climate. Winter here is relatively wet, with the highest number of rainy days, while summer is distinguished by extreme dryness.
The bulk of precipitation falls between November and March. The rainiest months are considered January and December, when an average of 6 mm of precipitation falls, and the number of rainy days reaches 16. In November and February, a noticeable amount of precipitation is also observed (4 mm and 3 mm respectively) and about 10-11 rainy days. March becomes drier, with 2 mm of precipitation and 9 rainy days. Snow is uncharacteristic for Rhodes, given the mild winter temperatures, so precipitation falls mainly as rain.
Starting from April, the amount of precipitation decreases sharply: in this month there is only 1 mm of precipitation and 4 rainy days. The summer period, from May to September inclusive, is exceptionally dry, with an average monthly rainfall equal to 0 mm. Specifically, in July and August there are no rainy days at all, and in June and September – only one such day on average. October marks a gradual return of precipitation (1 mm, 4 rainy days), preceding the wetter winter season.
What to Pack
When planning a trip to Rhodes, it is important to consider its Mediterranean climate to make your holiday as comfortable as possible. Summer (June-September) here is hot and dry, with average temperatures from 23°C to 27°C and virtually no rainfall. Therefore, the basis of your summer wardrobe should be light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics, swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen. Do not forget comfortable shoes for walking along ancient streets and the beach, such as sandals or light trainers.
In the shoulder seasons, spring (April-May) and autumn (October-November), the weather in Rhodes remains pleasant but becomes more changeable. During the day, the temperature is comfortable (from 17°C to 22°C), but evenings can be cool. During this period, the ideal solution would be layered clothing: T-shirts, light jumpers or cardigans, jeans or trousers, as well as a light jacket or windbreaker. Although there is little rain, especially in April, May, and October, a compact umbrella or raincoat may be useful, especially in November.
Winter (December-March) in Rhodes is mild, with average temperatures around 13-15°C, but it is the wettest period of the year, with the highest number of rainy days (up to 16 days in January and December). For a winter trip, pack warmer clothes: jumpers, fleece tops, a waterproof jacket, perhaps a light scarf and a hat. Comfortable waterproof shoes will also be very handy. The principle of layering is also relevant here, allowing you to adapt to temperature changes throughout the day.
