Current Weather
Overview
Mataram, located in Indonesia, welcomes travelers with a classic tropical climate. This region is characterized by hot and humid weather year-round with minimal temperature fluctuations. Due to its proximity to the equator, eternal summer reigns here: average thermometer readings consistently stay in the range of +26°C to +27°C, creating comfortable conditions for a getaway in any month.
The year here is clearly divided into two main seasons: wet and dry. The rainy season usually lasts from November to April, peaking in December and January, when precipitation can fall almost daily. During this period, nature comes alive, becoming especially green and lush, although high humidity can be felt more strongly.
The dry season, which falls between May and October, is considered the most favorable time for a classic tourist visit. The number of rainy days decreases sharply, especially in July and August, when the sky remains clear most of the time. This is an ideal time to plan excursions and beach holidays, as the weather becomes more predictable and sunny.
Temperature
Mataram features a typical equatorial climate with striking temperature stability throughout the year. Monthly averages fluctuate in a very narrow range — from 25.8°C in July to 27.1°C in May and October. There are no pronounced seasonal shifts between cold and heat that residents of temperate latitudes are used to. The "coolest" time can loosely be called the period from July to August, when the average temperature drops slightly, though even then the weather remains summer-like, warm, and comfortable for any type of vacation.
Looking at the climate through the lens of familiar seasons, the summer months (June–August) in Mataram are characterized by pleasant warmth with daytime highs around 29°C. During this time, nights become a bit fresher, with air temperatures around 22.8°C, bringing a welcome coolness after a sunny day. The winter period by the Northern Hemisphere calendar (December–February) coincides with the wet season here: temperatures stay steady at 26.3°C, but due to high humidity and warm nights (around 24.5°C), the air may feel more stifling.
Daily temperature fluctuations in the city are minor but still noticeable. During the day, the air usually warms up to 28–30°C, reaching its peak in October, when maximum values of up to 30.0°C are recorded. After sunset, the heat subsides, but don't expect a significant cool-down: the difference between the daytime maximum and nighttime minimum rarely exceeds 4–6 degrees. This mild temperature amplitude allows tourists to feel comfortable in light clothing around the clock in any month of the year.

Precipitation
The climate in Mataram is characterized by a clear division into wet and dry seasons, typical for this part of Indonesia. Precipitation here falls exclusively in the form of rain. The wettest period lasts from November to April, when the number of rainy days reaches its peak. In December and January, for instance, up to 29 days with precipitation are recorded, making these the cloudiest months of the year.
The dry season begins in May and continues until September, making it an ideal time for travel. During this period, rain is extremely rare. The "driest" month is considered to be August, when precipitation is observed on average for only 3 days. July and September also delight tourists with sunny weather and a minimal number of rainy days (about 5–7 per month).
Transition periods, such as May and October, are characterized by a moderate frequency of rainfall — from 9 to 11 rainy days. If you are planning a trip in the winter months or in March, be prepared for frequent rain and be sure to bring a reliable raincoat, as the sky rarely remains cloudless for long during this time.

Packing Tips
Since Mataram features a consistently warm tropical climate with an average temperature of around 26–27°C throughout the year, the core of your luggage should consist of light and breathable clothing. Opt for natural fabrics like cotton and linen, which help you handle the high humidity more easily. Shorts, t-shirts, light dresses, and sandals will be your best companions, but don't forget to pack at least one set of modest clothing (light trousers and a long-sleeved shirt) for sun and insect protection, as well as for visiting cultural sites.
When packing, it is crucial to consider the seasonal rainfall. From November to April, Mataram experiences its rainy season, during which the number of rainy days can reach 29 per month. At this time, be sure to pack a lightweight but reliable raincoat or a waterproof poncho, as well as quick-drying shoes, since an umbrella may be ineffective in windy weather. In the dry season (May to October), when rain is rare, the focus should be on protection from the strong sun: be sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat and high-quality sunglasses.
Regardless of the time of year, don't forget comfortable shoes for long walks around the city and its surroundings. Despite the heat during the day, nighttime temperatures in July and August can drop to 22–23°C, so a light sweater or windbreaker may come in handy for evening walks or travel in transport with powerful air conditioning. Also, be sure to stock up on sunscreen with a high protection factor (SPF 50+), as UV radiation here is very intense even in cloudy weather.
