The Central Zoo, located in Kathmandu, is the primary and essentially the only zoological park in Nepal. Situated in the Jawalakhel district, this zoo covers an area of about 6 hectares. It serves not only as a popular recreational spot for city residents and visitors but also fulfills an important mission as a center for the study, conservation, and promotion of the country's rich wildlife.

The Central Zoo collection features more than 900 individual animals, birds, fish, and reptiles, representing 127 different species. Special attention is given here to the conservation of rare and endangered species. Visitors can see iconic animals such as the Bengal tiger, the one-horned rhinoceros, the charming red panda, as well as the Asian elephant and the elusive snow leopard.
A walk through the zoo offers a unique opportunity to encounter both local fauna from the Himalayan region and exotic animals from other parts of the world. This makes a visit to the Central Zoo not just entertainment, but an educational adventure that helps better understand the importance of preserving our planet's biodiversity and Nepal's efforts in this field.
