Perched on the very tip of a rocky promontory, the Candelaria Bastion (Baluarte de la Candelaria) is one of the most impressive fortifications that Cádiz takes pride in. This powerful defensive complex was built in 1672 to protect the city from sea attacks, and today it remains a living reminder of the naval grandeur that Spain once knew.

The bastion's architecture is a classic example of Modern Era military engineering. Its sharp angle, jutting deep into the waters of the Bay of Cádiz, allowed for effective control over the approaches to the harbor. Today, this site has lost its combat functions, transforming into a unique cultural center where history harmoniously intertwines with contemporary art.
Thanks to its location and careful restoration, the bastion is considered an important part of the historic center, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is not just a fortress wall, but an entire space with exhibition halls, a museum, and a library, offering visitors the best panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city bay.
