One of the key features of the complex is its eco-friendliness. The facility has been awarded the prestigious LEED Gold certification, confirming high standards of energy efficiency and rational use of resources. Inside, visitors will find not only stands with excellent sightlines but also 340 club seats, four private suites, and special courtside areas for those who want to be in the heart of the action.

What to Do

Visitors to this venue can expect, above all, the atmosphere of authentic American college sports. Here you can witness exciting basketball matches of the Towson Tigers men's and women's teams, as well as appreciate the grace and strength of athletes at gymnastics and volleyball competitions. Thanks to the thoughtful design of the stands, an excellent view is available from almost every seat, allowing you to see every movement of the players in detail.

In addition to sports competitions, the arena regularly transforms into a concert venue hosting famous artists and family shows, including the annual tours of the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters. For those who value extra comfort, club areas and suites are available, providing a premium level of service during events.

A walk around the arena itself will also be a treat for fans of modern architecture. The building, designed by the firm Sasaki, is harmoniously integrated into the campus landscape. Visitors can feel the energetic atmosphere of the university town, where high technology and environmental initiatives meet the drive of big sports victories.

Getting There

The modern arena is conveniently located on the Towson University campus at 8000 York Rd. If you are traveling from downtown Baltimore, the drive will take about 20–30 minutes (approximately 20 km) via I-695 N or I-83 N. For travelers arriving through Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) airport, a taxi or rental car is the most comfortable option—the trip takes about 40 minutes.

For those who prefer public transportation, MTA buses or the Charm City Circulator are available, taking passengers to stops in the immediate vicinity of York Road. University shuttles can also be used to get around the campus.

If you are already on campus, reaching the facility is easy on foot: it is just a few minutes' walk from the university's other sports complexes. On major event days, it is recommended to arrive early as parking areas can be very busy.

History & Facts

The history of this sports facility began in January 2011, when plans for a large-scale renovation and expansion of Towson University's athletic infrastructure were officially announced. SECU Arena (now known as TU Arena) opened its doors in 2013, becoming the modern successor to the old Towson Center, which had faithfully served students and citizens since 1976.

Interestingly, after the new venue opened, the old building was not abandoned. It was repurposed into modern training gyms and offices for the athletic department, creating a single, powerful sports cluster. The new arena itself received its initial name through a sponsorship agreement with a local Maryland credit union.

A major milestone in the complex's history was 2017, when the arena became the new home for the professional indoor soccer team, the Baltimore Blast. This event significantly expanded the event calendar, adding dynamic Major Arena Soccer League matches. Today, the facility is not just a stadium but a symbol of an eco-friendly approach to construction, confirmed by its LEED Gold certification.

Time Needed

When planning your visit, base your timing on the type of event you intend to attend. Watching a basketball game, volleyball match, or gymnastics competition usually takes 2 to 3 hours. This time includes passing through security at the entrance, buying souvenirs or snacks, and the spectacle itself.

If you want to combine your arena visit with a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Towson University campus, you should budget an additional 1–2 hours. The university grounds offer a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation and several interesting architectural sites worth seeing up close.
