The climate of the island of Ikaria can be described as classic Mediterranean, distinguished by its mildness and comfort for travellers. Thanks to its favourable location, the weather here encourages a relaxed holiday: summer is traditionally dry and sunny, while winter is humid but without severe cold. Overall, climatic conditions on the island are quite stable and predictable.

The summer season, lasting from June to September, delights tourists with abundant sunshine and a complete absence of rainfall. In the hottest months — July and August — the average air temperature stays at a comfortable level of around +25°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday. Sea breezes help make the heat more bearable, making time spent on the coast pleasant even at midday.

The winter period, from December to February, brings rain and lower temperatures, which, however, rarely drop below +11°C. This time of year is characterised by the highest number of wet days. Spring and autumn serve as a pleasant transition: by May, summer-like warm weather sets in with almost no rain, and October offers the mild warmth of the "velvet season", although the probability of precipitation gradually increases towards the end of autumn.

When analysing weather indicators characteristic of the island of Ikaria, a unique feature immediately stands out: the minimal range between day and night temperatures. According to statistics, the difference between the daily maximum and minimum here is only about 2–3 degrees throughout the year. This creates an effect of incredible stability: the air cools down very slightly at night, distinguishing the local temperature regime from many other Mediterranean resorts.

Peak values are recorded in July and August, when the average temperature settles at the +25.0…+25.2°C mark. Even at the height of the day, the thermometer rarely exceeds +26.5°C, and at night it practically does not fall below +23.7°C. Such a schedule ensures very warm, pleasant evenings without a sharp chill after sunset, which is ideal for evening walks.

In the winter months, the temperature background decreases but remains within comfortable limits. January and February show average figures of around +12.5…+12.7°C. Notably, even during this period, which is considered the coldest, night temperatures hold above +11°C, ruling out frost and sharp fluctuations.

Ikaria is characterised by a typical Mediterranean precipitation pattern with a distinct division into a wet winter and an arid summer season. If you are planning a trip to Greece for the sake of sun and sea, the weather will not let you down: in the high season, rain here is an exceptional rarity.

The wettest period lasts from late autumn to the end of winter. The peak of bad weather usually falls in January and December, when up to 13–14 rainy days per month are recorded. In February and November, precipitation also falls quite often (about 9 days), so for a winter trip, it is definitely worth taking an umbrella or raincoat. Snow on the coast falls extremely rarely; precipitation mainly comes in the form of rain.

With the arrival of warmth, the situation changes radically. Already in May, the probability of rain is reduced to a minimum (about 1 day), and the summer months — June, July and August — are the driest of the year. In July and August, statistics show 0 days with precipitation, which guarantees clear skies and excellent conditions for a beach holiday. September also continues this trend, remaining predominantly sunny and dry.

When packing for a trip, it is worth considering that the summer season here is hot and arid. From June to September, you will need light clothing made of natural fabrics, swimwear and a hat. The sun, for which Ikaria is famous, is very active, so be sure to put high-factor sunscreen and high-quality sunglasses in your suitcase. Considering that even in the warmest months a fresh breeze may blow from the sea, a light wrap or long-sleeved shirt will not be amiss for evening walks along the coast.

If your journey to the country of Greece is planned for the period from November to March, your luggage should be more substantial. Winter here is mild but quite humid — it rains often, so a waterproof windbreaker, a reliable umbrella and a warm sweater or fleece jacket will become mandatory items on the list. In spring and autumn, the weather is changeable, and the best solution will be the principle of layering: a T-shirt is easy to supplement with a cardigan or light jacket if the air temperature drops.

Regardless of the season, pay special attention to footwear. The terrain is conducive to long walks along paths and hills, so comfortable trainers or trekking sandals with non-slip soles are simply necessary. For a beach holiday, it is also recommended to bring special shoes for entering the water, as some picturesque bays may be rocky.
