The Museum of Ancient Ships of Pisa (Museo delle antiche navi di Pisa) is a truly unique place in the famous Italian city of Pisa, Italy. This museum, which was 18 years in the making, immerses visitors in the exciting history of seafaring, presenting an impressive display of ancient Roman ships discovered during construction work.
The museum is located on the grounds of San Rossore station. It was here that a sensational discovery was made during construction: nine perfectly preserved Roman vessels. This is the largest group of ancient ships ever found in one place. Along with the ships, part of the ancient port of Pisa was also uncovered, adding even more historical value to the exhibition.
The discovery of these ships is of immense importance for understanding the maritime history of the region. Surprisingly, many of them are in excellent condition: you can see not only the wooden frames and planks but even the copper nails that held them together. Visiting the Museum of Ancient Ships of Pisa is a rare chance to touch the past and see for yourself the evidence of Ancient Rome's maritime greatness.
