Yangdong Folk Village (양동마을) is an amazing journey back in time, located northeast of the city of Gyeongju in South Korea. It is one of the best-preserved traditional Korean villages dating back to the glorious Joseon Dynasty. A visit to Yangdong provides a unique opportunity to touch history and see how people lived centuries ago.

Walking through Yangdong, you will be charmed by its authentic atmosphere. The village is famous for its traditional hanok houses with elegant tiled roofs, which belonged to noble families, and more modest dwellings with thatched roofs. Narrow, winding paths lined with picturesque stone walls lead past ancient buildings, each of which holds its own story. It feels as if the lifestyle of the Korean aristocracy of the 15th–19th centuries is coming back to life here.
Yangdong Village holds a special place in the cultural heritage of South Korea, being a living open-air museum. It clearly demonstrates not only the architectural styles of the Joseon era but also the social structure, daily life, and Confucian traditions of that time. For its exceptional preservation and cultural value, Yangdong was rightfully included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010 as an outstanding example of a traditional clan settlement.
