The idea to turn this place into a park area first appeared in 1840 according to the plan of architect F. K. Boffo, and trees were even planted, but the garden grew wild due to lack of care. The official birth of the park took place on September 7, 1875, when it was grandly opened during an imperial visit, and it soon received the name Alexander Park.

A curious historical anecdote is also associated with this place, featuring Alexander Pushkin as the main character. In 1824, long before the park was founded, the poet accidentally wandered into the territory where an artillery battery was still stationed at the time. The officer on duty, Ensign P. A. Grigorov, recognizing the famous guest, was so delighted that he ordered a salute to be fired in his honor from actual cannons, which greatly surprised both the poet and the local residents.
