An outstanding architectural and cultural landmark, the Staroflotski Barracks Museum Complex houses the Mykolaiv Local History Museum—one of the oldest and richest collections of antiquities in Ukraine. Housed in the majestic building of former naval barracks, built in the 19th century according to the project of C. Ackroyd, the complex is a symbol of the city of Mykolaiv and its glorious maritime history.

Inside these massive walls, which once accommodated up to two thousand sailors, a colossal exhibition is displayed today. The museum occupies two floors and includes 18 halls, where more than 400,000 unique exhibits are kept. Here, history comes to life in objects spanning a vast period of time—from prehistoric times to the present day.
Visitors will find rare archaeological finds from the ancient city of Olbia, Cossack relics, and extensive materials dedicated to the development of the shipbuilding industry. A special pride of the museum is a detailed model of the city and extensive natural science collections demonstrating the richness of the southern region's nature.
