Children's park

About

Imagine a cozy green oasis stretching out in the heart of Simferopol. This unique place, known as the Children's Park (Detskiy Park), was the first specialized park of its kind created for young visitors and their parents. Covering more than 10 hectares, it is located on the site of an ancient oak grove on the banks of the Salgir River, giving walks a special atmosphere of natural peace within the city limits of Ukraine.

The park harmoniously combines several functional zones: you can find modern attractions, an educational zoo corner, and an amazing aquarium. One of the main highlights is the Meadow of Fairy Tales, where characters from Alexander Pushkin’s works come to life—from the Learned Cat to formidable bogatyrs. It is not just a playground, but a true cultural center where nature meets history and fantasy.

The park is particularly proud of its natural monuments—mighty oaks reaching ages of 600–700 years. The most famous of them, "Bogatyr of Taurida," remembers the events of many centuries and serves as a symbol of resilience and the continuity of generations. Thanks to its high rating and variety of entertainment, the park has remained a favorite place for family vacations for many decades.

What to Do

In this wonderful place, everyone will find something to do. Little adventurers can test their courage on the rides: from the classic Ferris wheel, which offers views of the city, to modern trampolines, slides, and play areas like the "Brigantine" playground. For animal lovers, the doors of the zoo corner and terrarium are open, where you can see exotic birds, rare fish, and even a crocodile.

If you prefer a quiet and educational holiday, head to the Meadow of Fairy Tales. Here you can examine detailed sculptures of Baba Yaga and Ruslan, immersing yourself in the world of folklore. For young explorers, there is a Traffic Safety Town, where traffic rules are taught in a playful way, and an astronomical observatory for those who dream of reaching for the stars.

Active visitors will appreciate the modern roller-skating rink and alleys, perfect for scootering. In addition, more than 100 holiday events, festivals, and fairs are held here throughout the year, and performances are often staged at the Green Theater. It’s the perfect space to combine physical activity, learning, and fun in the fresh air.

Getting There

Located in the heart of the city at 51 Prospekt Kirova, this site is one of the most accessible points on the tourist map. The main entrance to the park is from Prospekt Kirova, but there are also convenient additional entrances from Schmidt and Kyivska streets.

You can get here by almost any type of public transport: buses, trolleybuses, and shuttle taxis passing through the center stop in the immediate vicinity of the main gates. If you prefer a taxi or a private car, the trip from anywhere in the center will take no more than 5-10 minutes, and for those who like walking, the path on foot from the city's main squares will take about 15 minutes.

For tourists arriving at the railway station, the journey will also be simple—just take a trolleybus or bus heading towards the center. Its central location makes this place an ideal stop on a weekend itinerary.

History & Facts

The history of this place is rooted in the deep past, when the banks of the Salgir River were covered with dense oak forests. Maps from the end of the 18th century already noted a forest with ancient trees here. In 1783, the site passed into the possession of the chemist Felix de Serres, who planted a blooming garden here, carefully preserving the ancient oaks, including the legendary "Bogatyr of Taurida."

The territory received official status as a place of recreation for young city residents in 1958. It was an ambitious project—the first specialized complex in the Soviet Union, conceived as a true "Land of Childhood." Since its opening, not only attractions but also educational zones have appeared here: an aquarium, a zoo corner, and a unique Traffic Safety Town.

In the 1970s, the architectural ensemble was completed by the majestic Pioneers' Palace, which became a center for technical and creative development. After a major reconstruction in 2011, the park was transformed: while maintaining the charm of the Soviet era and the commemorative Alley of Pioneer Heroes, it acquired modern infrastructure, new play areas, and high-quality lighting, remaining a living link between generations.

Time Needed

To explore all the corners of this space at a leisurely pace and allow children to enjoy the games, we recommend setting aside 3 to 5 hours for your visit. This time is enough not only to walk along the shaded alleys but also to visit the zoo corner, see the rare inhabitants of the aquarium, and take commemorative photos at the Meadow of Fairy Tales.

If you plan to actively use the rides or have lunch at one of the nearby cafes, it's better to count on half a day. For those who just stopped by for a short walk and to see the ancient monument oaks, an hour and a half may be enough, but the atmosphere of the place usually encourages a longer stay.

Working Hours

The park hospitably opens its doors to visitors every day. The schedule is very convenient for both morning walks with toddlers and evening relaxation after a working day.
