The Defensive Tower of Malakhov Kurgan is an outstanding monument of military engineering and one of the main symbols of the heroic past, carefully preserved in Sevastopol. Built in the mid-19th century, this two-tier stone donjon tower was a key element of the city's defense. Constructed from the famous Inkerman stone, its power is impressive: its walls are up to one and a half meters thick, allowing it to withstand heavy artillery fire.

Today, this landmark on the map of Ukraine functions as a unique museum. The tower is the central element of the large-scale Malakhov Kurgan memorial ensemble. Here, among restored artillery positions, trenches, and bunkers, visitors can literally touch the history of 19th-century fortification and see 52 authentic embrasures designed for all-around rifle defense.
The tower stands 8.5 meters high, and although its upper tier was significantly damaged during historical battles, the structure has been fully restored. From the top of the mound where the tower is located, breathtaking panoramic views of the city and Sevastopol Bay open up on a clear day, making it a must-visit not only for history buffs but also for lovers of beautiful landscapes.
