History & Facts

The history of this recreation spot is inextricably linked with the rapid development of the city in the 1960s. At that time, the right bank of the Salgir River began to be actively developed with residential blocks, and there was an urgent need for a large-scale recreational zone for the citizens.

The park was named in honor of Yuri Gagarin, the first person to conquer space. This decision was made on a wave of universal inspiration from the space achievements of that era, giving the site a special status and significance in the eyes of the people.

Interestingly, the initial architectural plans envisioned a territory of about 70 hectares. Over time, the park's boundaries were adjusted, and today it occupies, according to various estimates, between 36 and 50 hectares, remaining the largest city park on the entire peninsula.

Over the decades of its existence, the park has undergone several stages of improvement. Today, it harmoniously combines old, shady alleys planted back in the Soviet years with modern entertainment facilities, continuing to be the main venue for city holidays and festivals.

Time Needed

To simply cross the park at a brisk pace, you will need no more than 20 minutes; however, for a proper rest, it is worth setting aside 2 to 4 hours. This is enough time to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the pond shores and shady alleys.

If you plan to visit the amusement rides, rent a pedal boat, or have a small picnic in the pine grove, your stay may extend to half a day. The park is perfect for a relaxed pastime when you don't want to rush anywhere.

Working Hours

Access to the park remains open 24/7, allowing you to enjoy the silence of the alleys and the fresh air even during late evening or early morning walks. You can come here at any time—on Mondays, weekends, or holidays, the park is always open.

It is important to note that additional facilities such as amusement rides, boat rentals, and food stalls operate on individual schedules. Usually, they open by 10:00 AM and close at dusk, and in the winter period, their hours may depend on weather conditions.
