About

Hidden from view behind towering cliffs, Vasili Beach is considered one of the cleanest and most picturesque spots near the city of Sevastopol. This secluded corner of nature, located west of Balaklava Bay in Ukraine, is deservedly called a paradise thanks to its incredibly clear turquoise water.

The coastline, spanning about 300 meters, is covered with a unique combination of pink pebbles and golden sand. The stones are smooth, making it comfortable to walk along the water's edge. The beach is reliably protected from winds by massive cliffs, creating an atmosphere of coziness and isolation from the outside world, despite its proximity to popular tourist routes.

Access to the sea is convenient here, and the bottom is mostly sandy, though it's worth noting that the depth begins quite abruptly—just a few meters from the shore. Vasili Beach is ideal for those seeking a quiet holiday surrounded by virtually untouched nature and dreaming of swimming in crystal-clear seawater.

What to Do

Vasili Beach offers excellent conditions for various leisure activities. Fans of active recreation can take advantage of kayak and catamaran rentals, as well as try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) or jet skiing. For younger visitors, inflatable slides and trampolines are often set up, making the beach comfortable for family time.

For those who prefer tranquility, this location is an ideal spot for photography and filming. From the tops of the surrounding cliffs, breathtaking panoramas of Cape Aya and the endless sea views unfold. The clear water and absence of seaweed on the bottom provide perfect conditions for snorkeling—you can spend hours observing the underwater world here.

In the western part of the beach, behind rocky outcrops, boaters often gather, and in calm weather, the sea becomes so still it looks like a mirror. Here, you can simply enjoy the silence, sunbathe on the warm pebbles, or have a small picnic overlooking the Black Sea.

Getting There

You can reach this picturesque spot in several ways. The fastest way from the center of Balaklava is to take a minibus taxi departing from the entrance to the former underground plant; the journey takes only about 10 minutes. If you are traveling by car, follow the H19 highway to the parking lot located at the start of the walking trail leading down to the coast.

For those who enjoy walking, there is a pedestrian route starting from Tavricheskaya Embankment. You will need to pass the historical museum to Mramorny Beach, then go around Balaklava Bay and follow Mramornaya Street. Additionally, Vasili Beach is easily accessible by sea: shuttle boats regularly run from Balaklava Bay, offering a quick and pleasant sea trip directly to the beach pier.

History & Facts

Interestingly, until recently, Vasili Beach remained a "secret" spot for locals, and it was only in 2011 that significant improvements were made, making it accessible to mass tourism. Despite infrastructure development, the location has managed to preserve its pristine appearance: there are almost no bulky concrete structures that could spoil the natural landscape.

Today, this site is firmly ranked among the top seven best beaches in Balaklava and is considered one of the most popular attractions in the area. The bay where it is located has a unique atmosphere: it looks equally impressive in a dead calm, when the water becomes mirror-like, and during storms, when waves crash forcefully against the coastal rocks.

Locals value this place for its cleanliness and convenience, while tourists come here for the feeling of freedom and unity with nature. Vasili is one of the few beaches open to visitors year-round, allowing one to enjoy the seascapes even during the winter period.

Time Needed

To fully relax and enjoy the beauty of this place, it is recommended to set aside at least a few hours for your visit, or better yet—half a day. Considering the travel time and the descent to the water, a couple of hours will fly by while swimming in the pristine sea.

The optimal time to visit the beaches of Balaklava is May and September. During these periods, the weather remains mild and warm, but the exhausting heat no longer interferes with active recreation and walks along the coastal cliffs.

Working Hours

Access to Vasili Beach is open to everyone around the clock. You can come here to watch the sunrise or sunset on any day of the week—the beach is open 24/7. Entrance to the area is completely free.
