Strolling along a shady boulevard in the city of Poltava, it is impossible to pass by one of the region's most revered cultural sites. The Monument to Ivan Kotlyarevsky is a magnificent example of early 20th-century sculpture, erected in honor of the classic and founder of modern Ukrainian literature in Ukraine. The monument impresses with its grandeur: a bronze bust of the writer is set on a massive pedestal standing 5.7 meters high.

Three bronze high-reliefs decorating the lower part of the pedestal hold particular artistic value. They masterfully bring to life scenes from the author's most famous works: the immortal "Eneida", the touching "Natalka Poltavka", and the comical "Moskal-Charivnyk" (The Soldier-Sorcerer). Carved onto the facade are lines that have become a true motto for generations of literature lovers.
A whole galaxy of talented masters worked on creating this masterpiece. The primary work on the bust and high-reliefs was performed by the famous sculptor L. Pozen, while the architectural design of the pedestal was developed by A. Shershov. Today, the monument is not just a tourist spot on the map, but the true heart of literary Poltava.
