HiSky Europe Baggage Rules
Preparing for a flight with HiSky Europe (H4) requires careful review of baggage allowances, which may vary depending on the selected fare and destination. The airline offers a flexible system allowing passengers to choose only necessary services, helping to save on travel costs. Below are the main rules and packing recommendations.
Hand Luggage
HiSky's hand luggage policy is designed to ensure comfort and safety on board. The quantity and dimensions of permitted items depend on your booking class (Basic, Classic, Premium, or Premium Plus).
- Free Hand Luggage: Every passenger is entitled to bring one small bag (personal item) on board free of charge. Its dimensions must not exceed 40x30x20 cm, and it must fit easily under the seat in front of you. This can be a handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack.
- Large Hand Luggage: Passengers who have selected higher fares or purchased the "Priority Boarding" (HiSky Priority) service may take an additional bag on board measuring up to 50x40x25 cm and weighing up to 8 kg (in some cases up to 10 kg). This luggage is placed in the overhead compartment.
Checked Baggage
For longer journeys or transporting bulky items, there is an option to check luggage into the cargo hold. Allowances also depend on your ticket:
- Weight Categories: Typically, the airline offers baggage slots of 10 kg and 23 kg. The maximum total size of the suitcase (sum of length, width, and height) must not exceed 158 cm.
- Fare Plans: In the "Basic" fare, checked baggage is generally not included and must be paid for separately. "Classic," "Premium," and "Premium Plus" fares may include one or more pieces of baggage of various weights.
- Long-Haul Flights: Please note that for transatlantic flights, for example to New York, special rules may apply (usually the piece concept), allowing for more items. We recommend checking specific conditions on your itinerary receipt.
Excess Baggage and Fees
If your suitcase weighs more than the established limit or you wish to transport additional pieces of luggage, an extra fee applies.
- Overweight: Payment for excess weight is usually calculated for each extra kilogram or for a fixed overweight amount up to the next category.
- Online Payment: Purchasing additional baggage on the airline's website in advance (no later than a few hours before departure) is always significantly cheaper than paying for the same services at the airport check-in counter.
Special Baggage
HiSky Europe allows the transport of non-standard items subject to certain conditions:
- Sports Equipment: Skis, snowboards, bicycles, golf, or diving equipment are transported for a separate fixed fee. You must inform the airline about transporting such equipment in advance, as space in the cargo hold is limited. The maximum weight of a unit of sports equipment should generally not exceed 23 kg (up to 25 kg for bicycles).
- Musical Instruments: Small instruments (e.g., a violin) can be taken into the cabin as hand luggage if they fit within the dimensions. For larger instruments (cello), purchasing a separate seat in the cabin (Extra Seat) may be required. Bulky instruments are checked into baggage in hard cases.
Prohibited and Restricted Items
For safety reasons, there are strict restrictions on baggage contents:
- Prohibited in Hand Luggage: Sharp and cutting objects (scissors, knives), work tools, toy weapons, liquids in containers larger than 100 ml (except for baby food and medicines).
- Prohibited in Checked Baggage: Lithium batteries and power banks (these can only be carried in hand luggage), electronic cigarettes, explosives and flammable substances, compressed gases.
Tips for Efficient Packing
To avoid unnecessary stress at the airport, follow these simple recommendations:
1. Weigh at Home: Use household scales to check the weight of your suitcase before leaving. This will save you from unexpected extra charges.
2. Labeling: Be sure to attach a tag with your name and contact details to every suitcase. Remove old baggage tags to avoid confusion during sorting.
3. Valuables: Never check documents, money, jewelry, keys, or fragile electronics into luggage. Always keep them with you in your hand luggage.
4. Weight Distribution: If you are flying with someone, consider distributing items between suitcases to balance the weight and stay within the limits of each baggage piece.
