Precipitation in Xiamen is unevenly distributed throughout the year. The highest amount of rainfall and rainy days occurs from May to August, peaking in June (about 9 mm of rainfall and 22 rainy days) and August (about 8 mm of rainfall and 22 rainy days). This indicates a pronounced wet season in summer. Conversely, the autumn and winter months, especially from October to December, are the driest, with minimal rainfall (1-2 mm) and only 4-6 rainy days per month. While in September one can still expect up to 14 rainy days and about 4 mm of rainfall, October marks the beginning of the dry season. The driest months in Xiamen are October, November, and December, when the monthly rainfall norm is only 1 mm. The number of rainy days during this period is minimal: about 5 in October, and only 4 in December. The winter months, January and February, also remain relatively dry, with 2 mm of precipitation and 6-7 rainy days, making this time of year the most comfortable for those who prefer to avoid frequent rains.

When planning a trip to Xiamen, it is important to choose your wardrobe correctly to feel comfortable in any weather. Thanks to the subtropical climate, there are no extreme colds here, but seasonal fluctuations in temperature and humidity require attention. The foundation of your luggage should be comfortable walking shoes, as the city encourages long walks. Do not forget sunscreen and a hat, especially if your trip falls between spring and autumn. The principle of layering clothing is your best friend in Xiamen, allowing you to easily adapt to weather changes throughout the day.

If you are traveling to Xiamen in winter (December-February), when the average temperature hovers around 14-16°C, bring a light jacket, sweater or fleece, long-sleeved t-shirts, and trousers. In spring (March-May), the weather becomes warmer (18-25°C), but the likelihood of rain increases, so a light waterproof jacket or a sturdy umbrella will be very handy. Summer (June-August) is the hottest and most humid period (27-29°C, up to 22 rainy days per month), so preference should be given to light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and do not forget a powerful umbrella or raincoat. Autumn (September-November) delights with comfortable warm weather (20-28°C) and less rainfall; layered clothing will also be useful here – t-shirts, light sweaters, and perhaps a thin jacket for the evening.
