The pub's interior recreates the cozy, almost homey atmosphere of traditional Irish venues. Here you will find massive wooden beams, exposed brickwork, natural stone, and soft leather sofas inviting you to relax. One unique feature is the bar library with rare books on alcohol production and a cozy fireplace that adds unmistakable charm on cold evenings.

The establishment prides itself on its impressive collection, which includes over 2,000 bottles of whisky, ranging from classic Scottish single malts to rare Japanese releases. What to Do

Everyone will find something to their liking here, whether it’s a quiet evening with a book or a tasting session with friends. The main ritual here, of course, is enjoying a pint of Guinness or Magners Cider at the brick bar counter. If you prefer beer, there are 10 taps featuring the best Czech, Moravian, and international varieties, including the legendary BrewDog and Leffe.

For true spirits enthusiasts, exploring the whisky collection is a must. You can try exclusive varieties, such as the Gold Cock 1992 Black Stuff Private Cask, which received high praise in the Whisky Bible. Don’t hesitate to peek into the "bar library"—it houses plenty of interesting literature that helps you better understand the culture of fine spirits.

If you prefer cocktails, pay attention to the signature mixology. The local bartenders are world-class professionals who can offer you both flawless classics and original twists on popular drinks. In the evenings, major sporting events are often broadcast, and regular themed nights and tastings make every visit unique.

Getting There

Finding the venue is easy, as it is located in the central part of the city, just a few minutes' walk from Saint Wenceslas Cathedral and the Archdiocesan Museum. If you are strolling through the historical center, the walk from the Astronomical Clock will take no more than 5–10 minutes at a leisurely pace.

For those who prefer public transport, it is most convenient to take a tram or bus to the Zeyerova or Hodolany stops. From the main railway station (Olomouc hl.n.), you can reach it on foot in about 15–20 minutes or take a few stops on city transport.

If you plan to arrive by taxi from another part of the city, just give the address 1. máje 807/19 — it's a well-known spot, and drivers find it easily. For travelers with a car, city parking is available in the vicinity, though it's worth remembering that parking spaces in the center of Olomouc can be limited in the evening.

History & Facts

The history of this place began in June 2003. Initially conceived as a classic Irish pub, the project quickly grew beyond the boundaries of a simple beer establishment. Over the years, the focus shifted toward premium spirits, cementing its status as one of the best whisky bars not only in the region but in the world.

The owner, Zdeněk Kortiš, a recognized whisky ambassador, personally oversees the collection. He regularly visits Scottish and Irish distilleries to bring back unique bottles. Thanks to his efforts, a private collection of over 1,000 bottles has been formed in the back of the bar; these are not for sale but serve as a source of pride and inspiration for true connoisseurs.

Over the years, the bar has won the prestigious Czech Bar Awards and has been included in the list of the 30 best whisky bars in the world. Interestingly, the venue is constantly evolving: the interior within a 16th-century building is harmoniously complemented by modern mixology elements, and the bartenders regularly become finalists in international competitions in London, Dublin, and Tokyo.

The location itself adds to the special atmosphere: the bar's summer terrace is situated right in the foyer of an ancient house, allowing guests to feel the spirit of medieval Olomouc while enjoying modern levels of service and drink quality.

Time Needed

If you just want to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a pint of excellent Irish beer, one hour will be quite enough. However, most guests prefer to stay longer, especially if they plan on tasting rare whiskies or signature cocktails.

The optimal visit time is 2–3 hours. This is enough to explore the extensive bar menu, chat with the professional bartenders—who are happy to share the stories behind the drinks—and enjoy the coziness by the fireplace. An evening at The Black Stuff is not just a trip to a bar, but a full gastronomic and aesthetic adventure, best planned for the end of a busy day of sightseeing.
