The modern 13-story museum building, which opened on October 22, 2021, is an architectural masterpiece in its own right. Its tower, with its characteristic lean overlooking the Oslo Fjord, has become a striking new symbol of the city. The project, designed by the Spanish firm Estudio Herreros, offers visitors not only exhibition halls but also magnificent panoramic views.
Inside, the museum houses the world's largest collection of Munch's works, which the artist bequeathed to the city of Oslo. The collection includes about 1,100 paintings, 4,500 drawings, and 18,000 graphic works, as well as the master's personal belongings. This allows guests to truly dive deep into the artist's world, trace his creative journey, and better understand his unique legacy.
