How to get to Taizhou

How to get there: Introduction

When planning a journey along the eastern coast of China, many tourists wonder how to get to Taizhou — a picturesque city in Zhejiang province, where modern districts coexist with ancient temples and natural parks. Thanks to the region's developed infrastructure, you can travel to Taizhou by any convenient means: taking a flight to the local airport, a high-speed train, an intercity bus, or a car.

By Plane

The fastest and most comfortable way to reach the city is to take a flight to the local Taizhou Luqiao Airport (HYN). The airport is located in the Luqiao district and serves regular flights from many major metropolises in China, including Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. This allows travelers to arrive directly at their destination, avoiding long transfers.

If suitable direct tickets are unavailable, the airports of neighboring cities — Wenzhou and Ningbo — serve as convenient alternatives. They are major transport hubs with extensive route networks. The distance from them to Taizhou is comparatively short, and can be covered by high-speed train or bus, making such transit quite accessible and comfortable.

By Bus

Bus service in Zhejiang province is excellently developed, making a trip to Taizhou a simple and budget-friendly alternative to other modes of transport. The shortest and fastest route connects the city with neighboring Wenling: the distance here is minimal, and the journey takes less than an hour. Comfortable buses also run regularly from Wenzhou, covering a distance of about 120 kilometers in approximately one and a half to two hours.

Travelers coming from the north can take a convenient bus from Ningbo. The trip, covering about 160 kilometers, usually lasts just over two hours, allowing you to enjoy views of dynamic cityscapes and the region's green hills. Tickets for these destinations are generally available right before departure, and the frequency of service allows for flexible travel planning.

By Car

A trip by car offers freedom of movement and the opportunity to enjoy the urban and natural landscapes of Zhejiang province. The shortest path lies from neighboring Wenling: the distance is only about 30 kilometers, which usually takes no more than 40 minutes. If you are departing from Wenzhou, the 120-kilometer journey along a high-quality expressway will take approximately one and a half to two hours, depending on traffic.

The route from the north, from Ningbo, is also quite popular: covering 160 kilometers usually takes about two and a half hours. For such intercity trips, you can use a taxi, which is particularly convenient for travelers with bulky luggage; however, keep in mind that the final cost of the trip will include not only the metered fare but also tolls for highway usage.

Travel Tips

Preparing for your trip to Taizhou will help avoid minor inconveniences and allow you to fully focus on the impressions of this dynamic city. We have compiled a list of practical recommendations to make your stay in the region comfortable and safe.

  1. Clothing and Seasonality: The city's climate is humid subtropical. Summers are hot and humid, so choose loose-fitting clothing made from natural fabrics and always carry an umbrella. Winters are mild but windy — a warm jacket will suffice. Comfortable shoes are a must at any time of year, especially if you plan to visit nature parks.
  2. Transport: To move around the city, it is most convenient to use taxis or ride-hailing apps, as navigating bus route maps without knowing the language can be difficult. If you do decide to use the bus, prepare small change in advance or set up payment via QR code in a mobile app.
  3. Finance and Payment: The main currency is the Chinese Yuan. International bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) are not accepted everywhere, mostly only in major hotels. We strongly recommend installing Alipay or WeChat Pay on your smartphone and linking your card to them, as well as keeping a small amount of cash for minor expenses.
  4. Health and Hygiene: Tap water is not suitable for drinking; please buy bottled water in supermarkets. Pharmacies are easily recognized by the green cross, but most medicines have names only in Chinese, so pack a basic first-aid kit with your familiar medications while still at home.
  5. Connectivity and Language: English is not widely spoken in Taizhou outside of business centers and expensive hotels. Be sure to download an offline translator and a city map to your phone. Also, arrange for a VPN or roaming in advance to maintain access to your usual messengers and social networks.
  6. Local Etiquette: The Chinese value politeness and restraint. Greetings are usually limited to a nod or a light handshake. Tipping is not customary in restaurants. Additionally, never stick chopsticks vertically into a bowl of rice — this is associated with funeral rites and is considered disrespectful.
  7. What to Avoid: Try not to plan important transfers during rush hours (from 7:30 to 9:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00), when roads are heavily congested. Also, be attentive when crossing streets: even at pedestrian crossings, drivers of mopeds and bicycles may not yield the right of way.
  8. Gastronomic Tip: Taizhou is famous for its fruits, especially the waxberry (yangmei), the season for which falls in early summer. If you are here during this time, be sure to try the fresh berries, but buy them from reputable fruit stalls or supermarkets where they are kept cool.

Following these simple rules will help you feel confident and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the east coast. May your journey go smoothly and bring you many interesting discoveries!
