The climate in Zhongshu is classified as humid subtropical, promising travelers warm and temperate weather throughout most of the year. In this region of China, the seasons are quite distinct: a mild and relatively dry winter is followed by a humid, hot summer, while the transitional periods of spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for tourism.

Temperatures in Zhongshu are generally stable but feature pronounced seasonal contrasts. July and August are traditionally the hottest months, with daytime temperatures consistently around 31–32°C. During these months, even nights bring only relative relief, staying around 25°C, which, combined with high humidity, creates a true tropical atmosphere.

Winter months in this part of China remain quite mild. In January and February, daytime temperatures usually hover between 8–10°C, though they can drop to 1°C at night. Spring and autumn are the ideal times to visit Zhongshu: in March and October, daytime temperatures stay within a comfortable range of 17–22°C, allowing you to enjoy walks without the summer heat.

It is worth noting the significant diurnal temperature variations. During transitional seasons, especially in September, the difference between the daytime high (29°C) and the nighttime low (20°C) is about 9 degrees. Breezy conditions during this period can enhance the feeling of coolness, so an evening stroll might require warmer clothing than a daytime walk.

Precipitation in Zhongshu is frequent and significant, distributed throughout the calendar with a clear summer peak. The true rainy season begins in June and lasts until August, when monsoon winds bring intense downpours. July is the wettest month, with rainfall reaching an impressive 245 mm and up to 18 rainy days per month.

In contrast to the stormy summer, the winter period is characterized by a noticeable decrease in humidity. December is the "driest" time of year, although light drizzle is still possible. Snow in the Zhongshu area of China is extremely rare due to the city's subtropical location, so winter precipitation most often takes the form of brief, cold showers.

The high frequency of rainfall gives the local landscapes a special atmosphere, often shrouding the city in a light mist. Travelers should note that the weather in September is often windy, and humidity can fluctuate widely from 60% to 88%, making the rains in Zhongshu a part of the local southern charm.

For a trip to Zhongshu during the summer (June to September), the core of your wardrobe should be light clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Given the high humidity and frequent rain, be sure to bring a reliable umbrella or a compact raincoat. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat, as the sun in this part of China can be very strong even through the clouds.

If your visit is planned for the winter or spring months, it is best to follow the principle of layering. You will need warm sweaters, thick windbreakers, or light jackets to protect against the cool wind and humidity. Since nighttime temperatures can be quite low, a light scarf and gloves wouldn't go amiss. Pay special attention to waterproof and comfortable footwear for long walks in the hilly terrain.

Regardless of the season, your backpack should always have room for insect repellent, especially during the rainy season, and a water bottle to stay hydrated on hot days.
