The fortress was built to protect the city from sea and land, and its sea-facing walls reach an impressive thickness. Above the fort's entrance, the famous inscription is carved: "Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro" ("Freedom is not sold for all the gold in the world"), which perfectly reflects the spirit of independence of the former Dubrovnik Republic. It is not just an architectural monument, but a true symbol of resilience.
Today, Fort Lovrijenac is not only a popular tourist attraction offering stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the Old Town but also a unique performance venue. In the summer, its walls host theatrical performances as part of the famous Dubrovnik Summer Festival, making a visit to the fortress especially memorable. A walk through this fort allows you to literally touch history and feel the medieval atmosphere.
