This majestic church is considered one of the spiritual pillars adorning the city of Bologna. Above all, it is the most significant temple of the Dominican Order, built in honor of its founder — Saint Dominic de Guzmán, whose relics have rested here for eight centuries. Travelers are greeted by an ancient paved square where statues of the Saint and the Madonna rise atop high columns, creating a truly medieval atmosphere.

The building's exterior in Italy strikes with contrast: a modest and austere Romanesque-Gothic facade conceals a magnificent Baroque interior. Upon crossing the threshold, you enter a space decorated by the greatest masters of different eras. The temple's crowning jewel is the Ark of Saint Dominic — a marble masterpiece that even the young Michelangelo helped create.
Beyond its religious significance, the basilica serves as a true art museum. Here, you can see unique wooden choir inlays that contemporaries called the "eighth wonder of the world," as well as an ancient monastery with covered arcades housing the oldest known depiction of Saint Dominic. This is a place where history, religion, and the genius of artists merge into one.
