Laberinto del parque de Tentegorra

About

You can feel like a fairy-tale hero or an adventurer at an amazing place called the Tentegorra Park Maze. Located in the city of Cartagena, this site is officially recognized as the largest plant maze in Spain and is one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Covering an impressive area of 1,500 square meters, the maze is a living wall made of over 3,000 Leyland cypresses. The trees reach heights of two to three meters, creating an atmosphere of complete isolation from the outside world and turning the walk into an exciting quest. This place has become a true icon of the Murcia region, attracting both families with children and photography enthusiasts.

The maze is part of a larger complex — Rafael de la Cerda Park. Originally a private area, after an extensive renovation and its opening to the general public, the park has transformed into a modern space for interactive recreation where nature harmoniously blends with active entertainment.

What to Do

The main challenge awaiting guests is finding the way to the central tower. Visitors are offered a choice of two options: an easy route for those who just want a pleasant stroll, and a difficult one for true challenge seekers. Inside the maze, twelve themed doors are hidden, each decorated with a zodiac symbol, adding a touch of mysticism to the experience.

Upon reaching the central tower, you will be rewarded with a stunning view of the geometric cypress spirals from above. For safety and better orientation, special bridges are installed on both sides of the tower, and monitors are placed at the entrance and inside the maze to help you avoid getting completely lost.

Beyond the maze itself, you can visit the Tentegorra Aventura area with its rope courses, take a dip in one of three swimming pools with water slides, or play a game of giant chess. On weekends, the park often hosts performances with clowns and magicians, making it an excellent option for family leisure. Entry to the maze costs about €3, while general admission to the park is €5 for adults.

Getting There

The Tentegorra Park Maze is located in the suburbs, just a 5-minute drive from the city center. The easiest way to get here is by private or rental car — convenient parking is provided for visitors right at the entrance to the recreation area.

If you prefer public transport, you can use Cartagena's city bus routes that head toward the Tentegorra area. A taxi ride directly from your hotel or the city center is also always an option, saving time and ensuring maximum comfort. For precise navigation, it is recommended to use GPS with the site's coordinates.

History & Facts

The history of this site began back in 1947, when the foundation for the future park was laid on a hillside where water reservoirs were located. The official opening took place in 1952, but for a long time, Rafael de la Cerda Park remained a restricted territory. It was intended exclusively for employees of the Taibilla Canals Association, which managed the region's water resources.

The situation changed only in 2011, when the park finally opened its doors to all residents and visitors. This decision gave a powerful boost to the development of the area. As early as 2012, an extensive modernization began, transforming the old park into a modern center for active recreation.

The famous plant maze made of cypresses was designed as the crown jewel of the renovated complex. Since its debut, it has quickly gained the status of one of the most popular attractions not only in Cartagena but in the entire Murcia region, attracting thousands of puzzle lovers from all over the world.

Time Needed

The duration of your visit will depend on your chosen route within the maze and your navigation skills. On average, finding the exit takes between 15 and 60 minutes. If you decide to solve all the riddles of the twelve doors and want to stay longer at the observation deck for photos, allow about one hour for the attraction.

However, given the abundance of other activities in Tentegorra Park — from swimming pools to the rope park — we recommend setting aside at least half a day, or better yet, coming for the whole day to fully enjoy the outdoor recreation.

Working Hours

Tentegorra Park Maze is open to visitors throughout the week, though operating hours vary slightly depending on the day:

  • Monday — Friday: from 10:00 to 18:00;
  • Saturday: from 09:00 to 18:00;
  • Sunday: from 09:00 to 17:00.
