Managed by the renowned "la Caixa" Foundation, the center is a vital part of a network of cultural spaces, offering visitors access to world-class exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. Here, exhibition halls, auditoriums, and interactive spaces come together under one roof, creating a unique atmosphere for inspiration.

The building housing the project was originally built as the Viñes Cinema in the early 20th century. Today, it serves not only as an ornament to Avinguda de Blondel but also as a main attraction for anyone who appreciates high-quality displays and intellectual leisure in a historical setting.

What to Do

There is always something interesting happening within the walls of this center. Visitors can explore temporary exhibitions covering a wide range of topics: from classical painting and retrospectives of famous photographers to innovative projects dedicated to the future of humanity. The displays are updated regularly, so every visit promises new discoveries.

For those who prefer live interaction and active participation, the center organizes concerts across various genres, lecture series, and film screenings. This is a space where art becomes a catalyst for dialogue. Special attention is given to family leisure: regular masterclasses and educational workshops allow children and adults to express their creativity in an interactive way.

Don't forget to take some time to appreciate the building itself. A walk through the halls of this former modernist cinema allows you to value the craftsmanship of past architects who preserved the era's charm. Thanks to its location by the Segre River, it is pleasant to relax in one of the nearby green areas after your visit, discussing what you've seen over a cup of coffee.

Getting There

Reaching CaixaForum Lleida is incredibly simple due to its location in the city's historical heart. The main landmark is the Segre riverfront. If you are already in the city center, for example near Plaça de la Paeria, a walk along Carrer de Magí Morera will take about 15 minutes. The route passes through picturesque old quarters, which is a pleasant addition to the walk itself.

The city's public transport is well-integrated, and most bus routes heading to the center stop within walking distance of Avinguda de Blondel. For those who prefer comfort, a taxi ride from the train station or more distant parts of the city takes only a few minutes. The compact nature of the city center allows you to easily combine a visit to the gallery with exploring other landmarks on foot.

History & Facts

The building that hums with cultural life today was constructed between 1919 and 1920. Architect Francesc de Paula Morera i Gatell designed it in the elegant style of Catalan Modernism. It originally housed the Teatre Viñes, named after the famous local pianist Ricard Viñes, who personally attended the grand opening.

For many decades, this site remained an entertainment hub, evolving into one of the city's first and most popular cinemas. Its halls remember the golden age of cinema and theater throughout the early and mid-20th century. It wasn't until 1978 that theatrical and cinematic activities here ceased.

A new chapter for this architectural monument began in 1989 when the building was acquired by the "la Caixa" Foundation. Following a large-scale and careful renovation that preserved its unique facade and historical spirit, the cultural center opened in 1990. The official name CaixaForum Lleida was established in 2008, making it part of Spain's prestigious network of art venues.

Time Needed

Visitors typically need between 1 and 2 hours to see the current exhibitions. This is plenty of time to explore the halls without rushing, appreciate the architectural details, and immerse yourself in the exhibits. If you are an art enthusiast who enjoys studying every piece in detail, plan for a longer stay.

If a concert, lecture, or special workshop is scheduled on the day of your visit, we recommend setting aside about 3 hours. If you wish to combine your visit with a stroll along the riverfront and a tour of nearby historical monuments, you should dedicate half a day to this part of the city.

Working Hours

The cultural center maintains a convenient schedule, though it's important to keep the traditional afternoon break in mind. From Monday to Friday, CaixaForum Lleida welcomes guests from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. On Saturdays and Sundays, the center opens a bit later at 11:00, while maintaining the same evening hours.

A significant advantage is that entry to the center is often free, making it an excellent option for any budget. However, some special concerts or lectures may require prior registration or a purchased ticket.
