The year here is clearly divided into two distinct seasons: dry and wet. The dry season is relatively short and falls during the winter months, from December to February, when rainfall is minimal and daytime temperatures reach their peak values. This time is considered the most favourable for excursions and open-air walks.

The rainy season in Uyo lasts for most of the year, starting in March and ending in November. During this period, especially from June to October, it rains very often, and humidity increases significantly. Despite the abundance of precipitation, the air temperature remains comfortable and does not drop too low, creating an atmosphere typical of the tropics.

The climate in Uyo is distinguished by stable warmth throughout the year, although temperature regimes have their seasonal peculiarities. The hottest period here is not in the middle of the year, but at the beginning. From January to March, the air warms up the most: the absolute record holder is usually February with an average temperature of about 30°C and daily highs exceeding 35°C. At this time, the sun is most active, creating an atmosphere of true tropical heat.

Interestingly, the calendar summer (from June to August) in Uyo brings relative "coolness". Due to high cloud cover and precipitation, the average temperature in these months drops to a comfortable 25–26°C. The winter period, on the contrary, is characterized by higher thermometer readings: December and January are dry and hot here, making them an excellent time for those seeking escape from the cold winter of northern latitudes.

Diurnal temperature fluctuations also depend on the season. The most noticeable difference between day and night is observed in the dry season (beginning of the year), when the amplitude can reach more than 11 degrees: after the daytime heat comes pleasant evening freshness. In the rainy season, this gap narrows, and the temperature becomes more even throughout the day. Nevertheless, even on the "coldest" nights, the thermometer in Uyo rarely drops below 22–23°C.

The climate in Uyo is characterized by a distinct division into a dry season and a rainy season, which is typical for the southern part of Nigeria. It is important for travellers to consider this factor when planning a trip, as the character of the weather changes significantly depending on the month. Precipitation here falls exclusively in the form of rain; there is no snow in this tropical region.

The most favourable period for those who prefer dry weather lasts from December to February. During these months, the amount of precipitation is minimal (on average 1–2 mm), and the probability of getting caught in the rain is extremely low — only 6 to 8 rainy days per month. This is the ideal time for walks and sightseeing in the open air.

The rainy season begins quite abruptly in March and continues right up to November. The wettest months are July and September, when precipitation levels reach their peak (about 14 mm). During this period, as well as in October, it can rain practically every day (up to 30 days a month). Showers are often heavy but warm, so when heading to Uyo at this time of year, be sure to take a reliable umbrella or raincoat with you.

Since it is warm year-round in Uyo, the basis of your wardrobe should be light clothing made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Loose T-shirts, shorts, and summer dresses will be appropriate in any season, ensuring comfort even in the hottest months, for example, in February, when the temperature rises to 35°C. Do not forget comfortable shoes for long walks — reliable sandals or breathable trainers will be the best choice for exploring the city.

Special attention should be paid to preparing for precipitation. According to statistics, the rainy season here lasts from March to November, and the number of rainy days during this period is very high (up to 30 days a month). Therefore, a quality raincoat, a waterproof windbreaker, or a sturdy umbrella are absolutely necessary items in your suitcase. We also recommend taking a spare pair of shoes that dries quickly or is water-resistant, so that changeable weather does not disrupt your plans.

Despite the heat, in the evenings, especially in July and August, it can be fresh, so a light cardigan or a long-sleeved shirt will not be superfluous. In addition, covering clothing will be useful for protection against insects. Be sure to pack sunscreen with a high protection factor and a hat in your luggage, as the sun in Nigeria can be very active even on cloudy days.
