What to Do

At "Dzyga," every visitor will find something to their liking, whether it is thoughtful contemplation or active participation in cultural life. First, head to the contemporary art gallery, where temporary exhibitions are regularly held. Here you can see everything from painting and photography to conceptual installations that challenge your usual perception of reality.

Visiting the local café, which is steeped in creative energy, is a special pleasure. It is the perfect spot to order a drink and simply watch Lviv’s bohemian crowd or discuss contemporary art. The café interior is an art space in its own right, where every detail emphasizes the venue's unique style.

If you are lucky with your dates, you might catch one of the iconic events: a jazz concert, literary readings, or a festival such as "Jazz Bez". The art center actively supports experimental projects and performances by young talents, so every visit can turn into a completely new and unexpected aesthetic experience.

Getting There

The legendary "Dzyga" is located in the heart of the historical quarter at 35 Virmenska (Armenian) Street. Finding it is easy — it is just a 5–10 minute leisurely walk from the central Rynok Square. A walk along this colorful street is a pleasant tourist experience in itself.

If you are traveling from outlying districts or from the railway station, it is most convenient to use public transport. Trams No. 2 or No. 8 will take you to the "Rynok Square" stop, after which you only need to walk a short distance. You can also use city buses that go to stops in the city center.

For those who prefer comfort, taxi and ride-sharing services (such as Bolt or Uklon) are available. A ride from the station will take approximately 10–15 minutes. However, it is worth remembering that much of the city center is a pedestrian zone, so a car will not be able to drop you off right at the doors of the art center, and the final part of the journey must be completed on foot.

History & Facts

The history of this iconic venue began in June 1993. The "Dzyga" association was founded by active members of the Student Brotherhood, including Markiyan Ivashchyshyn, Volodymyr Kaufman, and other cultural figures. The project grew out of the bold and free student initiatives of the early 90s, serving as a response to the city's need for modern and experimental art.

Since its early years, the art center has been a powerful catalyst for cultural life. Large-scale events such as the jazz festivals "Fluegery Lvova" and "Jazz Bez" were born and developed here. The association did not only exhibit paintings but also actively supported young artists, writers, and musicians who did not fit into the academic art framework of the time.

Over three decades, "Dzyga" has transformed into a living legend and a true symbol of alternative culture. Despite all the changes, it has maintained its original spirit of creative freedom and experimentation, remaining a place where new meanings and bold ideas that shape the modern art scene of the city are born.

Time Needed

For a standard introduction to the current exhibition in the gallery, you will need about 30–45 minutes. This time is quite sufficient to carefully examine the exhibits, read the descriptions, and soak in the author's concept.

However, most guests prefer to stay longer — for an average of 1–2 hours. The extra time is usually spent sitting in the cozy café, enjoying the atmosphere, and perhaps discussing what you have seen over a cup of coffee. If a specific event or performance is scheduled during your visit, it is worth setting aside an entire evening for the visit.

Working Hours

The art center welcomes guests daily, offering a convenient schedule for both daytime walks and evening leisure. On weekdays, the venue opens at noon, and on weekends, the doors are hospitably open from the morning.

The opening hours are as follows: Monday to Wednesday — from 12:00 to 22:00; Thursday and Friday — from 12:00 to 23:00. On Saturday and Sunday, the gallery and café await visitors from 10:00 to 23:00.
