Located in Lviv, on Taras Shevchenko Avenue, the oceanarium occupies three floors of the historic building of the former "Kyiv" cinema. Here, visitors will find a real labyrinth of more than 20 aquariums, home to over 3,000 marine residents: from vibrant coral fish to majestic sharks, rays, and turtles.

One of the main highlights of the complex is the underwater tunnel, which is 18 meters long. Walking under the transparent dome, guests can observe ocean life literally right above their heads, creating a full sense of immersion in the marine abyss. The exhibition is complemented by a shell museum and fascinating 3D shows on the walls of the complex.

What to Do

Visitors are invited to embark on a fascinating journey through a winding labyrinth of aquariums, where every turn reveals new inhabitants of the deep. It is worth starting your tour at the first aquarium, where guests are greeted by green turtles and dozens of species of exotic fish. The most striking impression will be passing through the 18-meter underwater tunnel, where graceful sharks and rays swim right over your head.

For those who want to dive deeper into the world of marine biology, 40-minute guided tours are available in Ukrainian, English, Polish, and Russian. In addition, you can visit the unique shell museum at the oceanarium and examine detailed models of historical fish and mythical creatures.

Family visitors and school groups will enjoy the interactive 3D show projected on panels. You can conclude your visit at the souvenir shop, which offers a wide selection of mementos to remind you of your marine adventure in Lviv.

Getting There

The attraction is located at 8 Taras Shevchenko Avenue, which is in the very heart of the city. Thanks to this central location, getting here from any part of the tourist quarter is easy.

You can use public transport: trams or buses with routes passing through the city center and Shevchenko Avenue. If you are arriving at the main railway station, the distance to the oceanarium is about 2 km. This distance can be covered by taxi in 10–15 minutes or by a direct tram heading towards the center.

For those who prefer a private car, keep in mind that parking directly on Shevchenko Avenue may be limited. It is recommended to leave your car in paid parking lots on neighboring streets and walk to the museum while enjoying the architecture of the historic center.

History & Facts

Lviv Oceanarium opened its doors to visitors in August 2020, becoming the first facility of its kind in the city. The project was realized in a building with a rich history—for decades, it had housed the popular "Kyiv" cinema. The reconstruction allowed the old halls to be transformed into a high-tech system of aquariums.

The idea was brought to life by a team of professional aquarists led by Alexander and Yana Yanovsky. Their goal was to create a unique space where modern design harmoniously blends with an educational mission. By the time it opened, the collection already included more than 3,000 marine inhabitants.

Today, the oceanarium is not just an entertainment center but also an important cultural site. It clearly demonstrates how a historical space can be adapted for new needs, attracting thousands of tourists and promoting the study of marine biology in a landlocked region.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore all the exhibitions on three floors and enjoy the atmosphere of the underwater world, it usually takes about 1.5–2 hours. This time is quite sufficient for independent study of the aquariums and a visit to the shell museum.

If you plan to take a 40-minute guided tour, which is available in several languages, or want to stay longer at the panoramic tunnel, you should set aside 2.5 to 3 hours for your visit. Also, factor in potential time for buying souvenirs and relaxing in the interactive zones.

Working Hours

The oceanarium welcomes guests daily, offering a convenient schedule for visits on both weekdays and weekends. Please note that the closing time depends on the specific day of the week.

The working hours are as follows: Monday from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the doors are open longer—from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It is recommended to arrive at least an hour before closing to have time to see the entire exhibition.
