The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a majestic Orthodox church and one of the main symbols of Nizhny Novgorod and all of Russia. Located in a picturesque spot on the Strelka, where two great Russian rivers—the Volga and the Oka—meet, the cathedral serves as the cathedral church of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Its golden domes are visible from afar, catching the eye of both worshippers and tourists.

This church is striking in its monumentality and architectural splendor. It reaches a height of 72.5 meters, making it one of the five tallest Orthodox churches in the country. The architectural appearance of the cathedral harmoniously combines elements of Russian and Romanesque styles. Particular attention is drawn to the central octagonal spire, reaching upwards and symbolizing spiritual ascent.
The construction of the cathedral was timed to coincide with the visit of Emperor Alexander II and dedicated to the sovereign's patron saint—Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky. Today, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is not only an important spiritual center but also one of the city's most recognizable architectural landmarks, a magnet for pilgrims and anyone interested in Russian history and culture.
