This majestic Benedictine monastery in the city of Girona is one of the most outstanding examples of Romanesque architecture in Catalonia. The Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, founded in the 10th century, is a unique historical space where ancient walls preserve the heritage of Spain.

The primary architectural treasure of the complex is the 12th-century church, built in the Lombard Romanesque style. Its massive forms, three naves, and elegant apses create an atmosphere of peace and monumentality. Tourists are particularly drawn to the unusual sculptural details, most notably the famous depiction of a two-tailed mermaid — a rare symbol in Christian art of that period.
Today, the monastery is no longer an active abbey and has been transformed into the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia. It houses priceless artifacts from the Roman and Medieval periods, allowing guests to take a true journey through time. Located right by the Galligants River, the monastery ensemble is rightfully considered a "jewel" of the old town.
