Preparing baggage is an important stage of any journey, and knowing the airline's rules will help avoid unnecessary hassle at the airport. Fuzhou Airlines adheres to standards adopted in China's civil aviation, offering passengers clear conditions for transporting belongings. We recommend familiarising yourself with the allowances in advance so that your trip proceeds smoothly and comfortably.
Cabin Baggage: Essentials with You
You are permitted to take items into the aircraft cabin that may be needed during the flight, as well as valuables and documents. Allowances depend on the class of service:
- Economy Class: Passengers may take one piece of cabin baggage weighing up to 5 kg. The dimensions of the bag must not exceed 20×40×55 cm.
- Business Class: Usually, two pieces of cabin baggage are allowed, each weighing up to 5 kg, with the same size restrictions.
In addition to the main bag, you may bring small personal items on board for free: a lady's handbag, a briefcase with a laptop, a coat, or an umbrella. Please note that cabin baggage must fit freely in the overhead locker or under the seat in front of you.
Checked Baggage
For bulkier items, transport in the cargo hold is provided. The airline uses the Weight Concept on most of its routes. Standard free baggage allowances are:
- Economy Class: Up to 20 kg of baggage.
- Business Class: Up to 30 kg of baggage.
For infants (without a separate seat), a 10 kg allowance is often provided. If your suitcase exceeds the established weight limits, you will have to pay for the excess according to excess baggage tariffs. Payment is made at the check-in counter at the airport, and the cost depends on the flight distance and the weight of the "extra" kilograms.
Special Baggage and Non-standard Items
Outdoor enthusiasts and musicians can transport their equipment on Fuzhou Airlines flights, but special rules apply. Sports equipment (e.g., bicycles, golf gear) and musical instruments are included in the free baggage allowance if they fit within the weight and size limits. If items exceed the allowances, an additional fee is charged.
Large or fragile instruments (e.g., a cello) may require booking an extra seat in the cabin. We recommend notifying the airline about special baggage transport no later than 24 hours before departure via the call centre.
Prohibited Items and Restrictions
Strict aviation security rules apply in China, which tourists should be aware of in advance:
- Lighters and Matches: Strictly prohibited for transport in both cabin baggage and checked luggage. They will be confiscated at security checks.
- Power Banks and Lithium Batteries: May be transported only in cabin baggage. The device must have a clear capacity marking (not exceeding 100 Wh, or up to 160 Wh with special permission). Damaged batteries are not permitted for transport.
- Liquids in Cabin Baggage: Containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml each, packed in a single transparent bag.
Tips for Effective Packing
To avoid stress before departure, weigh your suitcases at home. If you have multiple bags, distribute the weight evenly. Always remove old baggage tags to avoid confusion during sorting. Fragile items are best packed in the centre of the suitcase, cushioned with soft clothing, or taken with you into the cabin. And be sure to mark your luggage with a bright ribbon or a name tag—this will help find it faster on the carousel.
