Pet Travel Policy
Nouvelair Tunisie understands that pets are part of the family and allows passengers to travel with their four-legged companions on most flights. Whether you are flying to Tunis or heading to Europe, the airline provides options for transporting cats, dogs, and other small animals safely, provided all sanitary and security conditions are met.
Transport Options
In Cabin (Carry-on)
Small pets can travel with you in the cabin, ensuring they stay close throughout the journey. This option is subject to availability and specific constraints:
- Carrier Dimensions: The container must not exceed the dimensions of approximately 46 x 28 x 24 cm to fit securely under the seat.
- Weight Limit: The total weight of the animal and the carrier combined must not exceed 7 kg.
- Allowed Pets: Primarily cats and dogs; birds may be permitted depending on specific regulations.
- Containment: The pet must remain inside the waterproof, ventilated soft bag or cage for the entire duration of the flight.
- Limit: Typically, only one pet container is allowed per passenger.
In Cargo Hold (Checked Baggage)
Animals that exceed the size or weight limits for the cabin must travel in the ventilated hold of the aircraft.
- Container Requirements: You must provide a rigid, IATA-approved plastic crate with a secure locking mechanism and a metal door.
- Comfort: The crate must be large enough for the animal to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
- Weight Limits: Animals weighing between 7 kg and 75 kg (including the cage) are generally accepted in the hold.
- Safety: The container must be leak-proof and labeled clearly with your contact details.
As Cargo (For Large Animals)
For specific situations, transporting your pet via freight service is mandatory.
- When Required: This option is necessary for animals (plus cage) weighing more than 75 kg or for unaccompanied pets.
- Special Requirements: Transport must be arranged through the airline's freight department or a cargo agent.
- Booking: This requires a separate booking process from your passenger ticket and may have different check-in locations.
Required Documentation
To ensure a smooth check-in process, you must present valid health documents for your pet:
- Veterinary Passport: An up-to-date health card or passport issued by a licensed veterinarian.
- Health Certificate: A certificate of good health dated typically within a few days of the flight.
- Vaccinations: Proof of valid vaccinations, specifically a rabies vaccination record.
- Age Requirements: For travel to destinations in Europe (such as Paris or Munich), pets must generally be at least 15 weeks old to meet vaccination and waiting period regulations.
- International Certificates: A titration test or electronic microchip identification may be required depending on the destination.
Service Costs
Traveling with a pet involves an additional fee, which is not included in the standard baggage allowance:
- In-Cabin Fee: An approximate charge applies per leg (often around 50-75 EUR/TND equivalent).
- Cargo Hold Fee: A higher fee applies for animals in the hold (often around 100-150 EUR/TND equivalent).
- Note: Prices vary based on the destination and the weight of the animal; verify the exact amount at the time of booking.
Preparation Tips
Help your pet have a stress-free journey by preparing ahead of time:
- Acclimatization: Let your pet get used to the travel carrier or crate several days before the flight.
- Feeding: Feed your pet a light meal about 4 hours before departure to prevent motion sickness; avoid feeding right before flying.
- Hydration: Ensure your pet is hydrated, but remove water bowls during the flight to prevent spills.
- Comfort Items: Place an absorbent mat or a familiar blanket inside the crate to reduce stress.
Restrictions
Certain limitations apply to ensure the safety of all passengers and animals:
- Prohibited Breeds: Certain aggressive dog breeds or snub-nosed (brachycephalic) animals may be restricted due to respiratory risks.
- Young Animals: Puppies and kittens under the required minimum age are not accepted.
- Exceptions: Certified service dogs assisting passengers with disabilities are typically allowed in the cabin free of charge, subject to prior notification.
Important: Pet travel regulations can change depending on the destination country's laws. It is strongly recommended to contact Nouvelair customer service directly at least 48 hours before your flight to confirm your booking and verify current requirements.
