The climate in Yeosu can be characterised as temperate, with four clearly defined seasons. The city experiences significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year, allowing you to enjoy the unique charms of every season.

Winters here are quite cold and relatively dry, with average temperatures around 2-4°C. Spring brings gradual warming and an increase in rainfall. Summer in Yeosu is hot and humid, especially in July and August, when the average temperature reaches 25-27°C, and the number of rainy days increases noticeably, indicating the summer monsoon period. Autumn delights with pleasant, gradually cooling weather and decreased precipitation, creating comfortable conditions for walks and exploring the city.

Yeosu observes a noticeable annual temperature variation, characteristic of a temperate climate. The coldest month is traditionally January, when the average temperature is about 2.4°C, night frosts reach an average of -1.3°C, and the daily maximum holds around 6.1°C. In contrast, the peak heat occurs in August: the average temperature in this month reaches 26.8°C, with daytime highs up to 29.1°C and warm nights around 24.4°C. This temperature range creates diverse weather conditions throughout the year.

The summer months in Yeosu, especially July and August, are distinguished by consistently warm, and at times hot, weather. Daytime temperatures often rise to 27-29°C (for example, up to 29.1°C in August), while nights remain very warm, with minimum values in the region of 23-24°C. The winter period, from December to February, brings cool weather. Average temperatures range from 2.4°C in January to 4.3°C in February. At this time, night temperatures regularly drop to 0°C or slightly lower (down to -1.3°C in January), and daytime highs usually do not exceed 6-8°C.

An interesting feature of Yeosu's climate is the temperature fluctuation during the day. The smallest difference between day and night temperatures is observed in summer (for example, about 4-5°C in July and August), which indicates consistently warm conditions. At the same time, in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), as well as in winter, diurnal fluctuations are more pronounced and can reach 7-8°C (for example, in March the difference is almost 8°C). The transitional seasons – spring and autumn – gift the city with comfortable weather: in spring, the temperature gradually rises from an average of 9.2°C in March to 17.9°C in May, while in autumn it smoothly decreases from 22.8°C in September to 10.7°C in November, creating pleasant conditions for visiting the city.

Yeosu experiences distinct seasonality in the distribution of precipitation throughout the year. The greatest amount falls during the summer months, forming a clear rainy season, while winter is characterised by a significantly lower volume of precipitation and number of rainy days.

The peak of the rainy season falls in July and August. July sees the highest average rainfall — about 9 mm, and there are 17 rainy days in both July and August, which means precipitation occurs on more than half the days of each of these months. June (average 7 mm precipitation, 10 rainy days) and September (average 7 mm precipitation, 12 rainy days) are also humid months, preceding and concluding the peak of the summer monsoons.

The driest months in Yeosu are January and December, when only 1 mm of precipitation falls on average, and the number of rainy days is minimal (5 and 4 days respectively). February (2 mm, 5 days) and November (2 mm, 5 days) are also notable for low rainfall. In winter months, precipitation is generally insignificant. The transitional seasons, spring (March-May) and autumn (October), demonstrate a gradual increase and, accordingly, decrease in the amount of precipitation and rainy days, linking the dry winter period with the wet summer.

When packing your suitcase for a trip to Yeosu, it is important to consider the distinct change of seasons. In winter (December-February), you will need warm items: sweaters, fleece tops, an insulated jacket (preferably windproof), a hat, gloves, and a scarf, as temperatures can drop below freezing. In spring (March-May), the weather becomes warmer but is still changeable. It is recommended to take clothes based on the layering principle: T-shirts, long sleeves, a light jacket or windbreaker, as well as an umbrella or raincoat, as rainfall increases. Don't forget comfortable shoes for walking, as the city is conducive to exploration on foot.

Summer in Yeosu (June-August) is hot and humid, with peak rainfall in July and August. You will require light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen), shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. Be sure to take a sturdy umbrella or a high-quality raincoat, as well as waterproof shoes or a spare pair. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses will also be very useful. In autumn (September-November), the weather delights with comfortable warmth, gradually transitioning to coolness. Just like in spring, layered clothing will be useful here: from light tops and T-shirts in September to warmer sweaters and jackets in November. An umbrella may still be needed in early autumn.

Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes are your main companion in Yeosu. Given the coastal location, a light windbreaker may come in handy even in warm months for evening walks.
