The Museum of Modern Art of Tarragona (MAMT) is a vibrant cultural space located in the picturesque historical center of Tarragona. Founded in 1976, the museum aims not only to preserve the region's artistic heritage but also to actively promote contemporary art. The museum building itself is noteworthy: it was created through the combination and skillful restoration of three 18th-century houses, which gives the exhibitions a special atmosphere connecting different eras.
The pride of the collection is the work of prominent 20th-century masters representing Spain and Catalonia. Among the most significant exhibits is the "Tarragona Tapestry", created by the great Joan Miró in collaboration with Josep Royo. You can also see monumental works by sculptor Julio Antonio and paintings by Josep Tapiró, which allow visitors to trace the evolution of artistic thought from classics to the avant-garde.
Beyond the exhibition halls, the museum serves as an important research center. It houses a library, documentation center, and a rich photographic archive. This makes MAMT not just a tourist attraction, but a living space for studying current art trends, where history is seamlessly interwoven with the boldest experiments of contemporary creators.
