Puerta de Bisagra (Bisagra Gate) is not just a gate, but a majestic and primary entrance to the historical center of Toledo, one of Spain's most iconic cities. For centuries, it served as the formal gateway to the city, and today it remains one of its most recognizable symbols and an outstanding architectural monument.

The gate acquired its current monumental appearance in the 16th century during a reconstruction ordered by Emperor Charles V. Architect Alonso de Covarrubias created an impressive ensemble that harmoniously combines the austere features of a medieval fortress with the elegance of the Renaissance style. This makes Puerta de Bisagra not only an important historical site but also a true work of art.
The structure of the gate is a powerful fortification. Two massive round towers with crenelated tops frame the main passage, and the facade is decorated with the large imperial coat of arms of the Habsburgs. After passing through the arch, you enter an inner courtyard that leads to a second, older gate. Walking through the Puerta de Bisagra is a symbolic start to a journey into the past, opening the way to the treasures of ancient Toledo.
